Watch Wild Edibles of UK Woodlands – Wild Food

In this episode we go for a wander in search for wild edibles or things you can eat that grow naturally in the environment. There are unexpected sources of food that can be found in the wild and most people would walk past them not knowing what they are! This kind of knowledge can come in useful in a survival situation but some of the foods can supplement your current diet.

Things we find:
Wild Garlic or Ramsons (Allium ursinum): Leaves and bulbs can be eaten.
Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata), Leaves and seeds can be eaten.
Wood Sorrel (Oxalis acetosella), Leaves can be eaten but not to be consumed in large and frequent quantities due to presences of Oxalic acid, known to cause Kidney stones over time!
Raspberry (Rubus idaeus): Fruit can be eaten.
Whinberry (Vaccinium myrtillus): Fruit can be eaten.
Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica): Leaves can be eaten and are nutritious, should be cooked before eating!
